The new Chief Executive John McBride has been appointed for the Borough of Poole.

In his current role as Policy Director for the Borough, John has lead on a number of corporate projects including Poole Bridge and the regeneration of the Town Centre, Hamworthy and the Quay; the £5million investment in Hamworthy Schools; and supporting the development of the Education budget strategy.

John has worked in the Poole/Dorset area for 16 years and is an Economics graduate with 25 years experience spent at six local authorities.

Before taking up his current role as a Policy Director in 1996, John worked for West Dorset District Council for six years as Director of Central Services and Deputy Chief Executive. Prior to this John was Assistant Treasurer serving the then district Poole Borough Council for four years. A qualified accountant, John has also undertaken accountancy posts with the City of York, Stockton on Tees Borough Council and Broxtowe Borough Council as well as gaining an MBA through the Open University.

John, said: "I am delighted and very proud to have been offered the job of Chief Executive at Poole. These are exciting and demanding times for the town and the Council has a big role to play. As the town continues to grow and flourish we need to play our part in balancing its social, economic and environmental needs. The Council has excellent staff and I am looking forward to working with them on a programme of continuously improving services."

Cllr Brian Clements, Leader of the Council, said: "John came through as the best person for the post following competition with the exceptional and highly talented candidates who were attracted to this demanding post. These are exciting times for both the Council and the town and John will play a huge part in driving the vision and future of the whole community in Poole."

John is due to take over the role of Chief Executive on 1 June subject to ratification of the appointment at Annual Council on 21 May.
