15 Jan 07Young People Achieve More In Poole
Over 80 young people from all parts of Poole came together with friends and family to receive their Duke of Edinburgh's Awards
at a presentation event organised by the Borough of Poole's Youth Services.
The event, which took place at the Hamworthy Club, Canford Magna, awarded 72 bronze, eight silver and two gold awards, presented by the Deputy Mayor of Poole, Cllr Lou Knight.
The young people represented eight different schools and centres operating the Award under the Borough's licence.
In a speech to conclude the evening, John McBride, Chief Executive of the Borough of Poole, said: "I am delighted to see so many young people Receive their awards this evening because it represents such a worthwhile achievement. I would also like to thank all the unit leaders, teachers, volunteers and parents for all the support they have given in helping young people achieve their goals."
Cllr Tony Woodcock, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Children's Services, said: "I would like to offer my congratulations to all the young people who have achieved this fantastic award. The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is prestigious and well recognised all over the country. I would encourage more young people to get involved."
