Bowled Over By New Club House

Broadstone Bowling Club is to officially open it’s newly refurbished club house and facilities on Saturday 27 April 2002.

Thanks to partnership funding from the Borough of Poole and Sport England Lottery Fund the club has raised £70,000 to extend its facilities to include new ladies changing facilities and access for the disabled.

Michael Abraham, Chairman of Broadstone Bowling Club said: "This refurbishment will provide much needed facilities for our members and will now enable us to host people with disabilities including those from Lodge Hill Centre who have enjoyed the opportunity to have a go at the sport. Thanks to Broadstone Middles school who have encouraged the sport within young people we also now have a Junior Bowling Club."

Cllr Graham Wilson, Executive Spokesperson for Community Information and Support Services, said: "It is excellent that these facilities have been improved so that more people in our community can benefit from them. I hope that many more people are now encouraged to take up the sport."

Attended by Mayor and Mayoress of Poole, Cllr Ron Parker and Mrs Jean Parker and 100 club members, the official opening will be followed by the first game of the season.

To encourage new members to the club an open day has been organised for Sunday 19 May to enable those who have not played the sport before to come along and try it out.
