23 Apr 02Poole Chosen for BBC Music Live Jubilee Celebrations
Poole's 'Party @ the Park' on Monday 3 June 2002 has been chosen as an official site for the BBC MUSIC LIVE Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Announced yesterday at a launch at the Cygnet Continental Café Bar in Poole Park, Sally Taylor from the BBC and the Borough of Poole spoke of Royal links to the Park - it was opened on 17 January 1890 by HRH Prince Edward the Prince of Wales. Guests arrived to a background of cellists playing and heard live music from 'Little Darlings' who will be performing at the event.
Jayne Taylor, Event Manager, Leisure Services, Borough of Poole, said: "I am delighted that our community event has grown into something which will provide quality entertainment to hundreds and thousands of people across the country. It will be a unique experience with live music, street theatre, art & music workshops, street parties and much more! Attracting full radio and T.V. coverage, Poole Park will be alive with people enjoying themselves, it will certainly be a day to remember."
Shining out amongst fierce competition across the country, Poole's plans for an inspirational and exciting event won the hearts of those at the BBC. Poole will link with other BBC MUSIC LIVE sites across the country throughout the day and the event will end with the live pop concert from Buckingham Palace.
Graham Wilson, Executive spokesperson for Community Information & Support Services, said: "This is fantastic news for Poole and for our 'Party @ the Park'. It will put Poole on the map as one of the most unique and exciting places to be, not only during this celebratory week-end but all year round. With endless events and attractions on the day it will be fun for young and old and with top BBC coverage, people all over the country will see how strong our community spirit is in Poole and what a beautiful place it is."
Other organisations, as well as the Borough of Poole & the BBC supporting the event are: Poole Arts Centre, Dorset Music Service, Wessex Helpline, The Arts Institute plus others. To help support some inspirational art workshops and activities, students from the Arts Institute will be holding a car boot sale, in the car park at The Arts Institute, Wallisdown, on Saturday 11 May 2002 from 11am to 2pm. Not just any car boot sale - there will be a live acid jazz band, an art exhibition and the bar will be open! For bookings and information contact: Ian Nolan, tel: (01202) 363286.
