31 Mar 06Maintenance Work on Poole Bridge
For a period of five weeks from Monday 3 April until Friday 19 May 2006 the Borough of Poole will be undertaking overnight work on Poole Bridge to replace the damaged parapet railings adjacent to the carriageway on the bridge structure.
This will involve lane closures with temporary traffic lights from 7 pm until 5.30 am from Monday to Friday. The work will be completed and the traffic lights removed by 5.30 am each morning. Other than during bridge lifts, pedestrian and cycle access will be unaffected and weekend working is not expected.
In addition to the above works the bridge will also be closed completely overnight to vehicles and pedestrians on Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 April 2006 between the hours of 11.45 pm and 5.30 am This will allow repairs to be carried out to the Hamworthy lifting leaf overhead gantry beam, which was damaged following a road traffic accident.
Steve Tite, Highways Manager, Transportation Services, Borough of Poole, said: “While any disruption to the use of Poole Bridge is regrettable, I hope it will be appreciated that we have programmed the work overnight so as to minimise the inconvenience as much as possible. By carrying out maintenance in a planned way like this it is hoped to avoid the potential of unavoidable, more disruptive actions being necessary in the future."
Marine traffic will be unaffected during all of the above works although single leaf lifts may be necessary at times.
