Major Funding Success For Schools In Poole

Schools in Rossmore are set to benefit from an additional £3,205,570 of capital funding from the Government following a successful bid by the Borough of Poole.

This major project will include improving buildings and new facilities for over 1500 pupils attending schools in the area.

Cllr Brian Clements, Executive spokesperson for Education, said: "This funding is excellent news for the Rossmore community, it will enable school facilities in the area to be significantly improved. All schools in the pyramid will be linked to new broadband technology which will provide quick and easy access to Internet services that are an integral part of education today."

He added: "Extensive consultation with the community will take place over the next few months to ensure that the best options are made for pupils, staff, parents and schools in the area. One exciting part of this project is to build a learning centre on the Rossmore Community College Campus. Our vision is that it will be open for community use and learning 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 50 weeks a year and this additional funding will contribute to making that vision a reality."

Dr Shirley Goodwin, Policy Director (Education), said: "I am so pleased that we have made an application which has caught the interest of Government Ministers and that they have fully awarded the money in our bid. It means we will be able to enhance the learning facilities and opportunities for both our pupils and the wider community. This is great news for everyone who lives in that part of Poole."

She added: "This is the second year that Poole LEA has been successful in attracting additional funding of this nature. Many LEAs are not successful and Poole being one of the smaller LEAs has attracted a relatively large proportion of Government funding available for such schemes."

Before any of the work commences there will be a full consultation period. This will include a public meeting in mid-May this year. Formal notices will then be published, these will outline the proposed changes and there will be a statutory two month period for responses and comments
