Poole Britannia!

The dynamic changing face of Poole was the focus of Mayor, Cllr Les Burden’s warm welcome to Her Majesty the Queen at a special reception hosted by the Borough of Poole at the Lighthouse earlier today.

Since her last visit to Poole in 1979, the Mayor advised the Queen of the major opportunities now facing the town that will deliver real benefits such as new jobs, homes and new public waterfront as part of a £1billion investment over the next 10 years.

Drawing attention to catalyst for change, Poole’s £14million Twin Sails bridge, the model of which was activated for the Queen earlier in the day, the Mayor invited the Royal party to return to see the completed bridge and regeneration advising that there would always be warm welcome in Poole.

Mayor of Poole, Cllr Les Burden, said; “The £8million refurbishment of the Lighthouse and the £10.9million RNLI Lifeboat College and Survival Centre opened by the Queen today are key examples of how Poole’s regeneration is helping to improve the quality of life and assure a vibrant future for the town.  All of this in such a beautiful world class setting means we are exceptionally fortunate.  On behalf of the town, I am extremely honoured to welcome Her Majesty at this crucial time and am delighted she has been able to see just some of the major improvements that will shape the exciting future of this town.”
