Young People To Design Skate Park Mural

Young people will get the chance to create a giant mural for the Fleetsbridge Skate Park with support from Borough of Poole.

Professional urban artist Felix Braun will work with local youngsters to design and paint the mural on a 77ft long wall next to the skate ramps.

Design workshops will be held throughout March to support the project, which sees Borough of Poole working in partnership with the Creekmoor Community Association and Millennium Volunteers .

The workshops are open to any young people who use the skate park or live in Creekmoor. This will be followed by the painting of the mural from March 30 to April 5.

The finished mural will be unveiled on April 5 at a showcase event to celebrate the work of the young people and partners involved.

Arts in the Community Officer Marianne Scahill said: “This fantastic project will be the icing on the cake for the young people who use the Fleetsbridge Skate Park. They are being given the opportunity to learn new skills and have a real say in the development of their social spaces. We hope not only to empower the young people taking part in this project, but by doing so, tackle anti-social behaviour, and give them high quality arts experiences and work to be proud of.”

The project is funded by the Community Foundation and the Borough of Poole. Many services from the Borough of Poole, including Arts Development, Youth Services, Housing and Community, Transportation, Leisure are supporting the project as well as Wave Arts in Education Agency, local police and ward member Cllr Les Burden, Cllr John Rampton and the Mayor of Poole Cllr Mrs Judy Butt.

Young people taking part in the project will also have the opportunity to work towards a Youth Arts Award and gain them a recognised arts qualification.

12 March - 1pm – 4pm  Youth Arts Awards Session – Poole Library
                 7pm – 9pm  Waterloo youth centre, Kitchener Cres.

19 March - 7pm – 9pm  Waterloo youth centre

20 March - 10.30am – 3.30pm Fleetsbridge Skate Park – trial run!

Exhibition of designs for local people: 23 March – 29 March at Creekmoor Library
