Towngate Bridge, Poole

Due to the final stages of work on Poole’s Towngate bridge, restrictions to single lane traffic are due to continue until Wednesday this week.

Whilst the main road resurfacing and installation of the central kerbs has been completed, work to install the concrete base for a lighting column, the electrical supply and new direction signposts at either end of the bridge is still underway.

Bob Williams, Executive Spokesperson for Environment & Prosperity, said: "Some finishing off still needs to be done and rather than confuse drivers with re-opening both traffic lanes, then having to reinstate some minor coning over the next couple of days, the Borough agreed with the Contractors over the weekend to keep the restrictions in place until this work was completed. Whilst we are hoping to fully reopen this busy road as soon as we can, the work is due to be finished by Wednesday. I would like to apologise to road users for the delay and any inconvenience caused during the final stages of this work."

Editor’s Notes:

The refurbishment is part of a £2million investment in Poole’s roads. Some small scale work including the installation of the final lighting mast column will be completed after the Easter holidays.
