15 Mar 02Rossmore receives praise from OFSTED
Rossmore Community College has been given the thumbs up by OFSTED inspectors and has been praised for raising standards in Education.
Lead inspector Susan Kara reported to representatives of the school, LEA and governors that ‘The School had been transformed’, and that ‘significant progress’ had been made. The school was judged as having ‘many strengths and is no longer required to be in ‘special measures’. She concluded that ‘the positive ethos around the school has taken the school from being a caring community school to a school that not only remains caring but also has learning as its priority’.
Main findings of the inspection found:
- Standards of teaching and learning were rising rapidly
- Students’ attitude and behaviour was judged to be 100% satisfactory or better
- The provision of support for Special Educational Needs has seen a massive cultural shift. The professional and specialist staff meeting the complex needs of many children
- The school has strong and effective leadership, with middle managers making a considerable contribution to taking the school forward
- Outstanding systems are in place to monitor teaching and learning
- A team of committed (teaching and support) staff has a shared vision and a common goal
Cllr Sandra Moore, Chair of Governors, said: "Congratulations to all, staff and students. They deserve this recognition after all their hard work. The future is looking very bright, the hard work will continue enabling us to provide the very best for our young people".
Jeff Hart, Head of School Advice and Support, Borough of Poole, said: "The Headteacher, Cate Shaw, the staff, governors, parents and pupils have worked tremendously hard to improve the school so rapidly. They deserve everyone's congratulations. It is also pleasing that Her Majesty's Inspector praised the LEA's 'good support' over the past two years and felt that planned future LEA support was very strong. I would like to thank all those involved in helping the school do so well".
Catherine Shaw, Headteacher, said: “this is no more than the staff and students deserve, the staff of Rossmore are the most professional and committed that I have had the privilege to work with. Sandra Moore, Chair of Governors has been a tower of strength, quietly fighting in the background to ensure we receive the resources needed to help lift the learning environment. I would like to thank Shirley Goodwin, Director of Education. Our success is a good example of working in partnership with the LEA.”
