3 Jan 02Elderly Swimmers Marathon Effort
Elderly swimmers will be taking part in a sponsored swim to raise money for The Mayor of Poole’s Charity Appeal at Kemp Welch Leisure Centre on Monday 18 March.
Around 70 swimmers who attend the free sessions for the 65+ at Kemp Welch Leisure Centre aim to swim a total of 26 miles, the equivalent of the London Marathon to raise money for the Julia Perks Foundation and the Poole Hospital Asthma Fund. The Mayor will take part in the event and hopes to swim at least 25 lengths.
Mayor of Poole, Cllr Ron Parker said: " I am extremely grateful to everyone who is taking part and supporting some really worth while causes and I am pleased to join them in their lengthy swim. Not only is this a great way to keep fit but it also gives our grandchildren a chance to sponsor us instead!"
For more information or if you would like to sponsor the swimmers please telephone Cllr Charles Meachin on (01202) 682405.
