Future of Public Transport Discussed

The Borough of Poole will be discussing the future of public transport at a series of meetings and seminars over the next few months.

Priorities for public transport for the next 10 years will be considered by the Council. Issues under discussion will include:

  • Subsidising peak hour bus services to help tackle traffic congestion.
  • Concessionary fares
  • Dial-a-Bus service
  • Bus shelters

Cllr Lou Knight, Chairman of the Transportation Advisory Group, said: "The Council has limited resources for public transport so we need to be sure money is spent in the most appropriate way. We have benefited in recent years from significant public transport improvements which include better bus stops and shelters, priority for buses and their passengers, modern low floor buses and the ‘Connect’ concessionary fare scheme for pensioners and people with disabilities. We need to consider the challenges for the future and check whether we are on the right track."

Future meetings will be open to the public and will be attended by transport operators and local businesses. For more information contact John McVey, Passenger Transport Manager, Tel. (01202) 262221.
