18 Feb 02Replacing Boilers at Stanfield Close
Work to remove asbestos insulation board is being carried out at four properties at Stanfield Close in Poole.
The board was discovered during routine boiler replacement by contractors working on behalf of the Borough of Poole.
Following the discovery, residents at the properties affected were advised and asked to avoid any DIY in the immediate area. None of the asbestos was damaged and it presented no danger to the residents.
Used in building materials from 1930 up until the 1980's, asbestos is a naturally occuring mineral that was added to make building materials stronger and more fire resistant.
Joe Logan, Head of Housing Management, Borough of Poole, said: "Asbestos is no danger in this form but can cause a problem if damaged. Because of this we have advised the tenants affected not to undertake any DIY in the area and are working to remove the asbestos from the properties concerned. We routinely remove asbestos as part of other associated works such as a heating upgrade."
Specialist contractors will be working to remove the board from the properties and residents from the four properties will move from their homes for one night in order for the work to be carried out.
