2 Aug 04Launch of the new kerbside recycling in Poole
A new recycling scheme is currently being launched in Poole when eventually every household will be issued with a blue recycling bin.
The Borough of Poole is currently one of the top councils in the Country for recycling but with tough Government targets to meet, the aim is to become even more successful. New legislation now means that waste has to be diverted away from landfill sites and the high targets reflect this.
Letters outlining the new recycling scheme have been delivered to all households during July. This is being followed with a comprehensive information pack, collection calendar and the new blue recycling bins in September.
Peter Pawlowski, Head of Consumer Protection Services said: “This scheme represents a significant improvement in the recycling facilities the council offers and I hope every resident will take up the challenge that faces Poole to meet its government targets.”
Councillor Peter Adams, Chairman of the Environment Overview Group, Borough of Poole, said: “Meeting our recycling targets is one of the toughest challenges facing the Council and one I hope every household will lend their support to. The blue bin scheme should make recycling simpler and easier for everybody.”
Editor notes:
New blue bins will be delivered throughout August.
Paper, cardboard, plastic, tins and bottles can be placed in the same bin. No more separation.
The council’s Material Recycling Facility has the capability to sort and recycle the items placed in the bins.
Recycling waste will be collected fortnightly with no change to current domestic waste collection. Collection will start September.
Households will receive one of the following recycling services:
A small (140 litre) blue wheeled bin for houses and bungalows
Communal bin(s) for flats
Clear plastic bags for those on refuse sack collection
