Calling Young Library Users

If you're aged under 16, Poole libraries want to hear your views on your local library.

From 14 January all 10 of Poole's libraries will be conducting a children's Public Library User Survey (PLUS) over one week which aims to keep libraries up to date about the needs of young people today. Young people will be asked how they rate the staff, stock and services and what they enjoy doing most in their library, whether it's reading, taking home the latest DVD, or surfing the web. The survey also aims to reveal how often they like to visit, who they come with, and the area they are from.

Marguerite Dike, Children's Librarian, said: " This survey will provide us with an excellent opportunity to understand how young people rate the services we offer and whether they think their library could be improved in any way. It will be interesting to hear what they think of the facilities at Poole Central Library as they offer so much more than just books, such as a wide selection of DVDs, CDs and videos, along with a new children's play area, Chill Zone and IT suite. The reaction from the branch libraries is important too, and we particularly want to hear what young people think of the free computer facilities now available everywhere".

The survey will consist of three questionnaires for each of three age groups; age 0-4 is aimed at parents whilst age 5-9 and 10-15 are designed for young people to complete. Young people will not have to identify themselves as they will only need to provide their postcode.
