Could you be the next member of Youth Parliament?

Young people from Poole will be electing their new member of the UK’s Youth Parliament on Saturday 26 January and are seeking a strong minded 11-18 year old to represent the Borough.

The Youth Parliament is an independent national body which aims to give young people in the UK a voice which will be heard and listened to by local and national government, providers of services for young people and other agencies who have an interest in the views and needs of young people.

Peter Cooper, Senior Youth Worker, Borough of Poole, said: "The Youth Parliament will provide young people from Poole a great opportunity to have their say on local and national issues in order to have an influence on decisions made by the Government. I would encourage any 11-18 year olds in Poole who can speak in front of an audience, enjoy listening and would like to have their say, that this is an excellent opportunity for them to stand up and be noticed! The day will be informative, fun and will help to recognise and utilise the skills that you might need to be a member of Youth Parliament."

Cllr Brian Clements, Executive Spokesperson for Learning, said: "It is extremely important for authorities to listen to the views of young people so that they can influence the decisions we make that affect their lives. I hope that the borough’s young people use this fantastic opportunity and that the elected member will enjoy being the new voice for young people in Poole."

Poole’s current MYP Chris Harwood, said: " It’s been great to meet other MYP’s from around the country and discuss issues that affect young people. It would have not been possible without the help of my deputy MYP Lisa Ellaway who has provided much support."

Elections will be held on Saturday 26 January between 10-4pm at the Civic Centre, Poole. If you are interested in coming along please contact Peter Cooper or Rebecca Lucas, Youth Services on (01202) 262285.
