Park and Ride Discussed in Poole

Details of Poole’s Park and Ride scheme will be considered at a meeting of the Borough’s Planning Committee on Thursday 10 January 2002.

As part of the meeting, Councillors will consider the more detailed issues of access, traffic calming, landscaping and security for the planned park and ride.

Outline planning permission to use the site at Marshes End, Creekmoor for a park and ride was granted in March 1999.

Current proposals include 550 parking spaces, roundabout improvements and an access road for vehicles from Upton Road/Creekmoor Lane with bus access directed to the A3049 Upton By-Pass via a signalled junction.

Cllr Leslie Legg, Chairman of the Planning Committee, said: "Park and ride is one of the major ways we can help to ease traffic congestion and retain a vibrant town centre. Whilst the principle of a park and ride was agreed and given outline planning permission on this site three years ago, I know that some residents are uneasy about aspects of the scheme. Because of this members of the Planning Committee will visit the site in order to satisfy themselves before making more detailed decisions about the access, landscaping and security for the scheme. A huge amount of information has been made available and I hope that everyone with an interest in the application is able to come along to the meeting."

The meeting is due to begin at 6.30pm in the Committee Suite, Civic Centre and is open to the public.
