Chief Executive to Leave Poole

The Borough of Poole's Chief Executive, Jim Brooks, has announced  that he will be leaving Poole in April 2002 to take up the new post of Managing Director with Kingston upon Hull City Council.

Jim has held his post as Poole’s Chief Executive for eight years, overseeing the Council’s progress from district to unitary status in 1997 and more recently focusing on the successful £14million bid for a new harbour crossing and plans to regenerate the Town Centre, Hamworthy, Quay and Old Town.

Prior to his current post, Jim was City Treasurer at Manchester City Council with involvement in projects including the development of the Metrolink tramway and second terminal at Manchester Airport.

Jim, said: "I am extremely proud of what we have achieved in Poole over the last few years. The Council has developed into a strong and confident Local Authority which is working hard on behalf of residents and businesses. Poole is entering a new phase and I am confident the town will face it’s new challenges and go from strength to strength."

Cllr Brian Clements, Leader of the Council, said; "I would like to congratulate Jim and take this opportunity to thank him for all his dedicated work over the last eight years. We will all miss his support and his valuable contribution to life in Poole. The Council is facing exciting times and developing a reputation, both locally and nationally, for the quality of its work. It is great to see this recognised with Jim's new appointment. He leaves us with a strong team which will continue working to make this beautiful place a vibrant town for the future."

The post of Chief Executive will be advertised early in the New Year and Councillors will be working with the Council’s senior Management Team to ensure continuity and interim arrangements are provided until a permanent appointment is made.
