Award success for Poole's Beaches

POOLE is once again celebrating seaside success following today’s announcement of prestigious awards for its beaches.

In this year’s Seaside Awards, Poole’s award winning beaches for 2004 are: Poole Sandbanks Beach, Poole Shore Road Beach, Poole Branksome Chine Beach and Rockley Sands.

The Seaside Awards, organised by ENCAMS (the group behind the Keep Britain Tidy campaign), have very strict criteria for bathing water, beach safety and supervision, good beach management and clear information for the public.

Cllr Jonathan Pethen, Environment Portfolio Holder, said: "It’s fantastic news that Poole’s world class beaches have once again been recognised. Caring for them is a major job. Cleaning the beaches is extremely important, but only part of the picture. We also have to make sure that the beaches are well managed with clear and helpful information for visitors and have a good range of facilities. We have been expanding these over the last year with the introduction of the new crazy golf and further investment is planned for the coming year."

Notes

Environmental Campaigns (ENCAMS) is an independent national charity working for the improvement of local environments. The Seaside Awards have been running since 1992.
