Crime in Poole - Have Your Say

Local people are being invited to hear the findings of a recent crime audit and to contribute to the work of the Poole Crime and Disorder Partnership at a half day conference in February. \n

The Police, local authorities and other agencies now work together to improve community safety and to reduce the fear of crime which can have a major impact on people’s lives. They have a statutory duty to consult the public and take their views into account.

Amanda Bombardiere, Community Safety Officer for Poole said, "This crime conference is a way in which members of the public can make a valuable contribution to the work of the Partnership, especially in terms of how we keep the public informed of progress and the reality of crime. We need to ask the public what would work to reassure them that Poole is a safe place, whilst informing them that a healthy amount of awareness of personal property security is beneficial and can help to reduce incidents of crime".

Both the Police and local authority staff will be represented at the workshop together with many other agencies, and need the input of interested residents. Maybe you have been a victim of crime, or your neighbourhood has experienced the effects of criminal activity, if so, why not come along and contribute first hand to the good work which is already being undertaken in Poole.

Cllr Graham Wilson, Executive Spokesperson for Community Information and Support said: " We have come a long way since the Crime and Disorder Act gave local authorities responsibility to work alongside the Police within communities. This conference provides the perfect opportunity for local people to be directly involved with issues of community safety that concern them and their well-being."

The conference will be held on Saturday 2 February 2002, at Hamworthy Recreation Club, Magna Road, 9.00 am-12.30 pm.

Places at the conference are limited, so anyone wishing to attend should ring Paula or Rachel on 01202 633045 or 633430 to reserve their place. Details will then be confirmed by post.
