The Healthy Walks programme from the Borough of Poole's Walk Leaders Forum has been launched for the summer 2005.
The aim of the launch was to bring together trained walk leaders and health professionals across Poole and Bournemouth to develop a walking programme that local people of all ages and levels of fitness could access easily and regularly around Poole.
The walk's programme is the first of many initiatives from the Borough of Poole's Leisure Service to promote a varied and interesting range of activities for local residents who might not otherwise engage in physical activity.
Clive Smith, Head of Leisure Services, Borough of Poole, said: "The launch of the Healthy Walks programme was a great success and generated lots of new ideas. This is a really great opportunity for local citizens to get more active and lead a healthier lifestyle. The Healthy Walks programme is something that everyone can take part in and it's free!"
The first planned walks in Poole will start in mid June and each walk will cover one to two miles on level ground. They will be taken by qualified walk leaders and all walks are free.
The next Walk Leaders Forum is on 3 June and is open to any local volunteer walk leader to apply to attend. Opportunities will also be available to become a walk leader and start your own walking group.
