Poole Pride of Place Awards 2006

Nominations are now being invited for the Poole Pride of Place Awards 2006 organised by the Planning Services team at the Borough of Poole.

Now in its 26th year, the Poole Pride of Place Award is given to projects that make the greatest contribution to Poole in terms of architecture, building conservation or landscape.

Last year awards were given to the new buildings at the RNLI link will open in new window, a house at Branksea Avenue in Hamworthy, The Enterprise Pavilion link will open in new windowat the Arts Institute and the Rossmore Library and Learning Centre at the Rossmore Community College on Herbert Avenue which also gained a special prize for the best example of sustainable construction.

This year consideration will be given to those buildings that focus on sustainable principles with factors such as location, materials, construction techniques, information technology, community involvement and local sourcing. 

Councillor Mrs Ann Stribley, Deputy Leader of the Council and Design Champion said: "These awards are a great opportunity to recognise those projects that help to enhance Poole, both now and in the long term and we look forward to seeing the same high standard of entries that this competition has received year after year".

Entries will be judged by a panel of five including the Mayor of Poole, the Council's Design Champion,  Cllr Mrs Ann Stribley, an architect nominated by the Local Chapter of the Royal Institute of British Architects link will open in new windowand two other invited expert judges, one of whom will be an expert in sustainable development.
 
There is no restriction on the size or type of schemes that can be considered and anyone can nominate a scheme including the architect or developer, provided that it was completed before the 31st December 2005 or during 2004 and has not previously been entered for an award.  The closing date for this year's award entries will be noon on Monday 12th June 2006. 

Entry forms are available from the Council's offices or any public library in the Borough and nominations should be sent to the Head of Planning Design and Control Services, Borough of Poole, Civic Centre, Poole, Dorset, BH15 2RU or via email to j.biggs@poole.gov.uk . This year the forms and further information can be downloaded from the website at www.boroughofpoole.com.

Details of all of the entries submitted will be available for viewing from Friday 16th June at www.boroughofpoole.com/planning.
