Poole keeps up campaign for bridge

Councillors in Poole will be looking again at the Government’s decision to drop the Poole Harbour Bridge scheme, next week at the Economic Development & Tourism Sub-Committee meeting on Wednesday 2 September.

Cllr Bob Williams, Vice Chairman of the Sub-Committee said;

"We are desperately disappointed that the Bridge has not been successful at this stage. We think that the case we presented to the Government is compelling and we are determined to look for any alternative to relieve the traffic problems around Hamworthy and to allow quality investment to be attracted to this part of Poole which will bring in jobs and prosperity for local people. We will not allow Poole to become a backwater."

The Sub-Committee will be asked to agree to form a partnership with the private sector to continue fighting for the Bridge. The Council expects that it is unlikely that the Government will pay for a Bridge and so is determined to look at all alternative sources of funding.
