National Award for Poole Libraries

Poole libraries were the proud recipients of a national award this week as innovative Public Relations and Publicity Initiatives were recognised by the Library Association at a ceremony in the British Library on Wednesday.

Clare Chidley, Head of Cultural Services, Borough of Poole, said: "I am delighted that the hard work of our library staff has received national recognition. Local people have definitely benefited from our libraries - we have seen an increase of 95% in the use of computers since our campaign was launched in January. It seems people know that if you want to surf the web or e-mail free of charge, Poole libraries are the place to be!"

Poole library services were highly commended for their ‘Free Internet:Poole Libraries’ campaign in the category of Promotional campaign with budget over £500. The campaign consisted of a cleverly designed poster picturing a lady enjoying the free internet access at a library in Poole and it was posted on bus backs all over the Borough.

Judges were impressed by the way in which the service substantially investigated appropriate media for different user groups. The campaign clearly reached its target audience and the spokesperson from the Library Association considered that: "…this investigation was the foundation of a well planned and targeted campaign to promote free internet access in libraries in the Borough of Poole."
