Extra Boost for PE and Sport in Poole

Schools in Poole have been allocated additional funding of £630,000 to improve sport and PE facilities.

The Council has worked with schools, voluntary organisations and community groups to prepare specific projects and bids in order to receive funding from the National Lottery’s New Opportunities Fund.

The funding will be used to improve and refurbish facilities such as sports halls, changing rooms and provide equipment at the Borough’s schools.

Councillor Brian Clements, Executive Spokesperson for Education, said: "This funding will provide some much needed support for sporting activities in our local schools. In Poole we are fortunate to have some top class facilities such as the swimming pool and gymnastics facilities at Kemp Welch Leisure Centre and Ashdown athletics track which are used and are a benefit to lots of people already. This funding will boost the quality of sports facilities which is good news for pupils at the schools and local people who can also make good use of these facilities across the community."

Jeff Hart, Chief Education Adviser, said: "It is very encouraging that PE, sport and the health of our children is high on the agenda here. This reflects the desire in Poole to make a real difference on these issues".
