Light at Lighthouse!

An innovative singing workshop created by Poole’s Arts Development Unit and led by composer and musician Sammy Hurden has re named itself Luminos.

Sammy Hurden has developed a hugely successful teaching style that enables everyone to sing – even if they cannot read music. Mixing world music, gospel and soul with her own compositions, Sammy creates a powerful, multi-layered group of voices which look and sound completely different from the familiar format of classical or church choirs.

Sammy is a Dorset based composer, performer and workshop leader. She has collaborated with Toyah Willcox, composed film music for National Geographic specials and performed all over the world, She has been the musical director of three community plays and run singing workshops across the UK including Dartington, Devon, and Folkworks in Durham. She has recently been working with choirs across the south for the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra’s link will open in new window link will open in new windoweducation department. Her first workshops at Lighthouse link will open in new window began in April 2003 when she was invited by the Arts Development Unit to lead the newly formed Community Choir. It has now attracted over thirty participants and is continuing to grow under Sammy’s expert guidance. "My Lighthouse group has attracted an extraordinary range of people whose ages range from teenagers to pensioners. As well as the musical aspect, there is a social side to the rehearsals and new friendships are formed - singing encourages a tangible warmth between people. Luminos will light up autumn in Poole!"

The new course starts on Monday 13th September and is open to everyone who loves to sing. Anyone interested in joining can try a single session for £5. Further details from the Ticket Office on 01202 685222
