Boost for School Club Places

Children in Poole will benefit from £37,883 which has been awarded to set up 78 new child care places for children in the Borough aged 3 to 12.

The New Opportunities funding, awarded to Poole's Early Years and Childcare Partnership, will assist in creating 20 before school places and 26 after school for children aged 3 - 12 years. In addition the funding will provide 32 'wrap around' additional day care places for children aged 3 - 4 currently attending pre schools for two and a half hours a day.

Nicky Kay, Out of School Development Officer, Borough of Poole, said: "The award is great news for children and parents in Poole. The clubs will offer great facilities to families and it will mean that some parents may now have the opportunity to access employment. Children can be left in a safe environment which offers opportunities for fun and creative activities."

Councillor Brian Clements, Executive spokesperson for Education, said: "Out-of-school-hours clubs provide a valuable service to working parents and are a great experience for the children who attend. Not only are the children encouraged at an early age to be creative they can also learn whilst having fun. We have some wonderful clubs in Poole and I am delighted that this boost will enable us to offer more places."

The following clubs are currently preparing their facilities and are planning to open in early 2002:

Squirrels club at Hillbourne First School will be expanding their Breakfast club to offer 20 more places, giving a total of 30 places. The club will cater for Children aged 4 - 12 years old and will be offering a drop off to local schools in the morning.

Branksome Heath after school club will be offering 26 after school places to Children aged 4 - 12 years old. The club will cater for children from the school and local schools.
