30 Oct 01Poole Audi-Hextreme On Eurosport T.V.
European audiences will be getting a taste of sporting excellence when the first Poole Audi Hex-treme event is screened on Eurosport this week.
Following the success of the first ever Poole Audi Hex-treme, on 2 September 2001, Poole’s premier multi-discipline sporting event will be shown on prime time television in the U.K. on Friday 2 November at 10.15pm. It will also be repeated on Sunday 4 November at 8.00am.
An alternative sports channel screened on Sky, Cable and Digital Television, ‘Eurosport’ filmed this unique event as part of ‘AdNatura’, an extreme sports programme that focuses on adventure racing and multi-event sports.
The hour long programme will dedicate fifteen minutes to the brand new top class competition showing how 28 competitors fought it out in a gruelling row, sail, windsurf, swim, cycle and run against the backdrop of Poole’s world class harbour, parks and beaches.
A five minute feature of the event will also be featured in Triathlon World which airs on various T.V. stations world-wide such as: Sky Sports and UPC Sport One in Europe and the Outdoor Life Adventure Network in America.
Richard Vail, aged 24, from Surrey, claimed the first Poole Audi Hex-treme Champion Trophy beating stiff competition from top participants including Kate Allenby, Modern Pentathlon Bronze Medallist at the Sydney 2000 Olympics.
Katie Havicon, Event Manager, Borough of Poole, said: "Hex-treme was an amazing success, particularly for a first time event and we have had a fantastic response from competitors and sports enthusiasts across the country. As Hex-treme bridges the gap between regular triathlons and more extreme sports, like windsurfing and sailing, it appealed to a wide range of competitors, several of whom want to compete again next year. Plans are already being made to ensure the event is even more of a success in 2002 and with Hawaii interested in taking on Hex-treme it looks like the future is really exciting for this event."
‘Running Fitness’ magazine has dedicated three pages to this unique event in its November issue and ‘Boards’ magazine will also have a report from the event proving that Poole Audi Hex-treme is definitely one to watch!
