Poole Car Parking Charges

A review of car parking charges could be underway in Poole following a meeting of the Borough’s Transportation Advisory Group.

Proposals which will be considered by Poole’s Executive on Wednesday 24 October, include setting up a group to comprehensively review all on-street, Town Centre, district and beach car parks to tackle an on-going shortfall in revenue raised.

Cllr Lou Knight, said: "We need to strike a balance between the need to raise funding for local services, keeping the Town Centre viable for shoppers and workers and the need to reduce traffic on our roads. Our considerable investment and achievement of the Secured Car Parks Award for the Town Centre together with the commitment to keep the hourly rate at 50p for the last 3 years are examples of how we have done this in the past. We now need to look at all aspects of car parking to make sure we continue to achieve this in the future and a separate working party will enable us to examine these issues in more detail."

He added: "Our charges must be considered reasonable if they are to be accepted by the public. We are also endeavouring to increase the choices available to people visiting Poole and this will be one of the major considerations. The introduction of the Park and Ride at Creekmoor next year is a clear example of this."

Issues under consideration could include:

reviewing annual income targets set for car parking

introducing new on-street parking areas

increasing charges

extending or reducing maximum stay restrictions
