24 Sep 01Youth Work Training Opportunity
Enthusiastic Youth Workers are being sought to take part in training sessions to help plan a Residential Arts Activity weekend for 14-15 year olds from Poole.
As part of the National Environmental Youth Work Training Project youth workers are being invited to come and share their expertise and learn new skills to plan a fun weekend for Poole’s young people.
Kirsten Robb, Local Agenda 21 Officer, said: "Poole Youth Services and Poole’s Local Agenda 21 team worked together to obtain the project funding from the Department for Education and Skills. The project aims to develop youth workers skills using the arts to encourage young people to explore and express their views about the environment and their hopes for the future. It will also support the new themes of sustainable development and citizenship in the national curriculum. The youth workers will put their training into practice during the activity week-end and in their ongoing work with young people. We hope to get lots of people involved."
The project will bring together expertise from Poole Youth Services Arts Development Team, Poole’s Local Agenda 21 team, Dorset Wildlife Trust, The Guide Association, UK Youth and other youth and environmental organisations.
An introductory evening to come along and find out about the course, no commitment necessary, will take place on 2 October from 7pm - 9pm at The Gaff Youth Club, Hamworthy. The training events will be at the same venue on 13 October from 10am - 4pm and 16 October from 7pm - 9pm.
The Arts activity weekend for 14-15 year olds will take place in November and work produced from the weekend will be displayed around the town.
The training is free and starts on 2 October. To register or find out more contact Kirsten Robb on (01202) 633062 or Peter Cooper, Senior Youth Worker (Arts Development Team) on (01202) 262288.
