Poole Garage Prosecuted for Short-Measure Fuel

During a routine inspection of Knighton Garage in Magna Road by the Borough Of Poole’s Environmental and Consumer Protection Officers, a fuel pump was discovered to be delivering short measure fuel.

Further examination of the wire, sealing the pump calibration device revealed it had been cut.

The owners were prosecuted in Bournemouth Magistrates Court where they pleaded guilty to offences under the Weights and Measures Act 1985. Magistrates imposed a £250 fine on each of the two owners and ordered them to pay costs of £1,478, totalling £1,978 overall.

Councillor Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Borough of Poole, said: "Part of the Council’s responsibility is ensuring consumers get what they pay for. This includes checks to ensure petrol pumps and other measuring devices deliver the correct measure. We treat such incidents very seriously and will not hesitate to take legal action. In this case the cost to consumers was just over 1p per litre."
