20 Jun 05Horse Passport Day
Horse and pony owners in Poole will have the opportunity to comply with new regulations by obtaining a passport for their animal at a special session arranged for 9 July.
Regulations introduced in February require that all horses, ponies and donkeys must have a passport. Failure by owners to comply, could lead to a fine or custodial sentence.
Animal Welfare Officers from Environmental and Consumer Protection Services, in conjunction with veterinary surgeon, Philippa Rodale have arranged a location where any horse, pony or donkey owner in Poole can bring their animal to be microchipped and have their passport completed.
In order to obtain a passport, a complete silhouette of the animal is required. This can be provided by a vet or Horse Passport Agency recognised identifier, who will produce a detailed description of the horse including breed, feathering, scars, marking, freeze brands, size and age. If a horse has a vaccination or vetting certificate which already has the silhouette completed and signed by a vet, a further silhouette is not required.
Cllr Don Collier, Portfolio Holder for the Environment said: "We want to help owners to comply with the regulations, so a concessionary charge of £30 has been agreed for this passporting session. Those wishing to take advantage of this, must make an appointment as a limited time will be allocated to each horse. If demand requires, we will organise an additional day on 10 July."
To book an appointment please phone Gary Bredda, Animal Welfare Officer, Borough Of Poole on 01202 261740.
