30 Aug 01Competitors Line up for Poole Audi Hex-treme
Following fierce competition thirty top competitors have been selected to take part in the gruelling Poole Audi Hex-treme on 2 September.
Organised by Poole’s Tourism office, the brand new six event competition includes rowing, sailing, windsurfing, swimming, cycling and running against the backdrop of Poole’s world class harbour, parks and beaches.
The first ever competition of its kind, Poole Audi Hex-treme is drawing attention from across the UK sporting arena and is due to be televised by EuroSport. Entrants include sports personalities Kate Allenby (Bronze Medallist at the Sydney Olympics in the Modern Pentathlon), Sian Lewis (Modern Pentathlon World Cup Holder) and 62 year old John Challis from Swanage.
Bond Stunt Girl, Sarah Donohue (British National and Italian National Offshore Powerboat Champion) and Sydney Olympic Gold Rower Louis Attrill will be giving starters orders and ensuring competitors are on their marks during the event.
Katie Havicon, Event Manager, Borough of Poole, said: "For a first time event, Hex-treme is proving exceptionally popular because it bridges the gap between regular triathlons and more extreme sports whilst giving sailing and windsurfing experts the chance to take part in an event with more variety. We have had a fantastic response from across the country with competitors ranging from experienced Tri-athletes to local people with sailing experience and have a waiting list of competitors keen to participate in case anyone drops out."
John Challis, an Orthopaedic Surgeon, said: "Whilst I have limited experience of rowing and sailing, I’ve taken part in a couple of mini/sprint triathlons. Although I’m rather apprehensive, I’m looking at the event as a challenge rather than a race and am hoping to raise money for charity at the same time."
Anyone interested in sponsoring John who is raising money for World Orthopaedic Concern can contact him on tel: 01929 427625.
