£1.4million CCTV camera scheme on-line in Poole

Poole’s £1.4million CCTV camera scheme for Poole Town Centre and Turlin Moor is due to completed on Wednesday 29th August.

Under the scheme, the new state-of-the-art system provides 24hour monitoring through 14 fixed and two mobile cameras covering areas such as the High Street, Poole Quay and the Bus Station, with 6 additional cameras in Turlin Moor. Existing cameras in the Council’s car parks will be added to the network in October.

Cllr Graham Wilson, Executive Spokesperson for Community Safety, said: "It is great to see our efforts over the last two years come to fruition. CCTV is not only an important way of reducing crime, it also helps to make visitors and local people feel safer. Together with Poole’s safe car parks awards, this initiative will allow people to enjoy and make the best use of facilities in the Town Centre. This is an important beginning and we will continue by learning to make best use of this new aid for community safety, making Poole’s streets a safer place from now on."

Whilst the cameras will be on from 29 August, the system will be fully functioning by the end of October following testing and staff training.

Poole Divisional Commander, Supt. Chris Dennis said "Poole Divisional Commander, Supt. Chris Dennis said, "The Borough of Poole are to be congratulated on their determination to make Poole even safer. The Radio Link Scheme, 4 new Secure Car Parks together with dedicated Police Beat Teams in Hamworthy and the Town Centre will ensure we can crack down hard on anti-social behaviour – CCTV is the icing on the cake which will be a deterrent to the criminal and will give the public peace of mind."

Jan Knox, Town Centre Manager, said: "The new CCTV system will go a long way to supporting crime reduction in the Town Centre. It will also form an integral part of a new Retail Crime Initiative currently being established by Poole Town Centre Management and will support our existing Radiolink initiative."
