New Chaplain for Borough of Poole

Staff at the Borough of Poole have the support of Jonathan Martin, from 1 August 2001, as the Council’s first ever employee Chaplain, a post funded by Churches Together in Poole.

Jonathan is a Christian Minister and has previously worked in churches in Southampton and Poole. Currently serving as Reverend of Parkstone United Reformed Church, Jonathan will be working part-time with the Borough of Poole. The post is being funded by Parkstone United Reformed Church and Churches Together in Poole. Jonathan is available to all employees, of all faiths and none, to talk to in confidence about any issue.

Jonathan Martin, Council Chaplain, said: "I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to take up the post as Chaplain for the Borough of Poole. I have had the privilege of being involved with lots of people during the highs and lows they experience in their daily life. To this job, I bring some experience of pastoral care, spiritual development, community work and the Christian faith. As Council Chaplain, I will help to provide additional support in developing links between churches and other faith communities with the Council."

Colin Hague, Head of Personnel & Training Services at the Borough of Poole, said: "The introduction of a Council Chaplain funded by Churches together in Poole reflects the Council's continued commitment to provide its employees with care and support, complementing the role of our Employee Counselling Officer."

Jonathan has previously worked as greenkeeper, shopworker, clerk, managed a medium sized charity, established two co-operative businesses and served alongside the Royal Navy.

Jonathan and his wife Sue have four children.
