20 Oct 06Poole's Mental Health Services Rated As 'Excellent'
Poole has been recognised as offering excellent mental health services to local adults in a national review of Community Health Services.
The pleasing result is the outcome of the first national review of adult community health services undertaken by the Mental Health Commission
and the Commission for Social Care and Inspection
with only 9% of services across the country rated as excellent.
The rating has been achieved following the work of The Poole Implementation Team, a partnership group which includes the Borough of Poole, Poole Hospital NHS Trust
, voluntary and independent sector organisations, community groups, people who use services and their carers. Working together, the Team develop, implement and monitor mental health service improvements in the local community.
Councillor Elaine Atkinson, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Community Support said, "This is a great achievement for everyone involved. With one in six adults suffering from mental illness at any one time* the mental health services we provide are extremely important to the people of Poole and the success of partnership working is at the very centre of it all".
Community Health Services play a crucial role in modern mental health care as they provide services that are designed round the needs of the individual in their own community and not in hospital.
