Montacute School Ofsted Inspection

Montacute Special School in Poole was judged to be ‘outstanding’ in every category following a recent Ofsted inspection.

Describing the school as ‘exceptional’ the report concluded that ‘the school strives for excellence in everything that it does, pursuing with vigour and enthusiasm new initiatives that will benefit its pupils’.

Praise was also given for the ‘excellent progress’ made by the pupils who were described as ‘cheerful, articulate, friendly and hard-working young people who have a justifiable pride in their school’.

Inspectors attribute the school’s success to the notion that every pupil is valued and equally important. It stated that all pupils benefit from excellent teaching and an outstanding curriculum. Outstanding levels of care, guidance and support were said to help pupils make excellent progress in their personal development.

Marion Sammons, Headteacher at Montacute Special School, said: ‘We are absolutely delighted at the outcome of the inspection and believe this to be a just recognition of the children’s tremendous achievements, and of the great effort and commitment of staff and governors.  We are at an exciting time in our development as a Specialist School for Cognition and Learning, and are now looking forward to working in partnership with the Borough of Poole on an exciting project involving the future development of our campus to provide a range of integrated services for children with complex special needs.”

John Nash, Strategic Director for Children’s Services said: “The staff, parents and governors at Montacute School should be extremely proud of the contribution they have made to this excellent Ofsted report. The school’s outstanding partnerships with mainstream schools provide very many opportunities for the pupils to extend the boundaries of their learning. We will continue to work with the school to achieve the very best for the pupils, building on the excellent progress already made.”
