22 Dec 04Shoppers Flock to French Fayre in Poole
The Festive French Fayre held in Poole town centre on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 December was a huge success, with hundreds of people visiting the special market to buy authentic continental gifts in the lead up to Christmas. Market traders filled the area between Old Orchard and Lagland/North Street from 9am-5pm throughout the weekend, and a huge variety of continental products were available including specialist traditional food and drink produce such as freshly baked bread and pastries, cheeses, patisserie, olives, honey, confectionary, cider and wine. Household wares and accessories were also on sale, including French African Art, traditional dolls, Provencal tablecloths, leather goods and hand woven baskets. Special guests, the Mayor and Mayoress of Poole, Cllr Les Burden and Maryrose Burden officially opened the market and were presented with a hamper of goodies, which they chose to donate to Alderney Hospital. Helen Crawford, Poole Town Centre manager, said: "It was great to see so many shoppers absorbing the festive atmosphere and the crowds seemed delighted with the sheer variety and quality of the produce available. Many were making use of the free parking in the town and were taking full advantage of the opportunity to buy unique Christmas gifts for friends and family. The town centre was extremely busy throughout both trading days."
