Local people are being asked to nominate the unsung heroes and heroines of Poole, as part of the Borough of Poole’s annual Achievement Awards.

Individuals, groups or businesses who have displayed outstanding effort, service, dedication or achievement can be nominated for the awards.

The Mayor of Poole, Councillor Ron Parker, said: "We know that there are many people in our community working extremely hard for the benefit of others. This is a chance to celebrate their efforts - be it in community service, commerce, entertainment or some other field - and to recognise them for helping make Poole a better place to live and work. If anyone knows of someone who deserves this special honour, I urge them to get in touch."

Individual nominees must live or work in Poole and organisations or businesses must be located within the borough. The closing date for nominations is

1 October 2001.

Award winners will be presented with a special Poole Pottery plate at the Civic Reception and Awards Ceremony on 11 January 2002.
