New Markets Come to Poole

Poole Town Centre Management is introducing a new arts market to the Town Centre, extending the town's range of markets which includes the now well established farmers' markets.

The arts market will be run by Poole Arts Council as a pilot project during July and August. Local artists who produce 'original artwork' have been invited to exhibit and sell their work on Wednesday 25 July and 22 August outside Old Orchard House in the Lower High St, Poole.

Liz Magee, a representative from Poole Arts Council, said: "We have been looking for some time for a venue to promote local artists and it seems a great move to establish an arts market in Poole."

Jan Knox, Town Centre Manager, said: "Markets are popular events in town centres and we look forward to the new arts market becoming a regular event in Poole. We have a great deal of local talent to shout about."

Steve Harris, Arts Officer for the Borough of Poole, said: "Some excellent visual art is being produced locally and whilst we are endeavouring to acquire more permanent gallery space in Poole, the arts market will provide a great opportunity for the artists to show and sell their work. Exciting changes are happening in Poole and art in all its forms should be central to the future of the town."

Farmers markets continue on the third Sunday of each month. The next farmers' market will be at 10 am on 15 July at the same location.
