25 Aug 04Poole Celebrates: Key Stage 2
Provisional figures from the Department of Education and Skills show that Poole LEA has again improved in the national Key Stage 2 tests for 11 year olds.
For the second year running Poole schools have achieved their best ever results in the Key State 2 tests for English and mathematics. More pupils than ever have achieved the national target levels.
The overall rate of improvement at Key Stage 2 from last year has been twice the national average.
Standards in writing have improved considerably and are now above the national average, and for the third year running standards in mathematics have improved.
Jane Portman, Chief Adviser for the LEA, said: “I am delighted. Our continued improvement at Key Stage 2 is particularly welcome as this has been an area that has been most challenging both locally and nationally. This improvement reflects the hard work of pupils and schools, supported by parents and the LEA.”
Councillor Tony Woodcock, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Learning, said: “This is terrific news and reflects the efforts that have been focussed on achieving improvement at this Key Stage by schools and the LEA. Compared to the national picture, Poole traditionally does well at Key Stage 3, GCSE and A level and to raise our standards again at Key Stage 2 is particularly welcome. We wish all our students well in their future achievements.”
