25 Oct 05Plans for community park at Sterte Esplanade
The Borough of Poole’s Leisure Services are holding Open Days for residents to share their ideas for an exciting community park at Sterte Esplanade.
The building of new homes in the Town Centre is providing opportunities to develop the open space for those living and working in the Sterte area and Leisure Services are looking to involve local people in the process.

Cllr Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Borough of Poole, said: “The developers of housing sites in the Full Sail Ahead regeneration area are being asked to put something back into the neighbourhood. As part of the planning process the Council will negotiate a financial contribution towards the cost of improving the existing open space at the Esplanade, so that it can become a local park with facilities available to all the community. This provides a real opportunity to meet the current and future needs of residents, workers and visitors and we hope as many people as possible come along to give their views.“
The Open Days will be held on the Esplanade on Friday 28th October from 2pm to 5pm and on Saturday 29th October from 9am to 1pm. Council officers and park rangers will be on hand to listen to residents views about what is good and bad about the existing site and what residents would like to see happen in the future.
After the open days, there will be other opportunities for residents to get involved. The Council is planning to set up a Park Liaison Group representing residents, workers and users of the site, who will meet to share ideas and develop a vision for the park. A public exhibition of ideas and possible proposals is also planned for early 2006.
