First Steps On 'Streetscape'

Consultation is underway on the design and appearance of streets and public spaces to be revamped in the regeneration of Poole central area.

The Council and their design consultants, B+Buk, have an extensive programme planned over the next few months to seek people’s views on the project. Kicking this off recently were meetings with specific community groups: Faith, Pro-Disability, Youth & Hamworthy Community Learning.

Suggestions included: ensuring public areas were lively and accessible to everyone in the community, providing seats and shelters for watching the bridge open and close, spaces for performance, artworks and fountains. People also highlighted to need for new areas to integrate with the old and reflect the industrial and maritime history of the town.

John Biggs, Planning & Design, Borough of Poole, said: "These meetings were very successful and threw up some practical and imaginative suggestions. It is essential that local people get involved and tell us what kinds of places and spaces they would like to see around Poole in the future. So if you want to get involved in how new streets and spaces will develop, make sure you get along to one of our ‘streetscape’ venues."

An exhibition on Poole Quay, showing early plans on ‘streetscape’ and the regeneration of Poole central area, will be launched on the evening of Thursday 12 June. To be held in Enefco House on Poole Quay, it will give the public another chance to tell the Council their ideas and gather information about the project. The exhibition will be open on Friday 13 June with the main consultation day on Saturday 14 June.

There will also be an information stand and a chance to get involved at the Hamworthy First School Fayre on Friday 13 June, starting at 5.30pm.

More information regarding the forthcoming exhibition will be confirmed nearer the time.
