Poole's New Leader and Cabinet

A new team is in charge of making key decisions for the Borough of Poole following a meeting of Annual Council.

Now under Conservative control, Cllr Brian Leverett and Cllr Anne Stribley were elected as Leader and Deputy Leader of Poole’s 42 Member Council.

Cllr Brian Leverett, Leader of the Council

Cllr Brian Leverett, said: "I am very proud to have been elected Leader of the Council. Work has already begun on the clear long-term priorities of the Council, budgetary control, a second Harbour crossing, addressing traffic congestion and the need for affordable housing. We are especially concerned about poor government funding, particularly in the areas of education and social services and we will be pushing for a fairer deal for local Council Taxpayers""

He added: "Local people have high expectations of services in Poole which we have a responsibility to improve. I know that Members together with our committed work force are looking forward to developing the quality services, which this town and its residents deserve."

The Council also adopted a single party Cabinet of 8 Councillors, in line with Government recommendations. This will replace the Executive as the main day to day decision making body. There will be six portfolio holders each with responsibility for a specific area of the Council’s services thus ensuring real accountability and clarity of decision making.
