16 May 03People's Network at Poole Libraries
The Mayor of Poole, Councillor Graham Mason, will officially launch the People's Network at 10am on Saturday 17 May at Poole Central Library. The Mayor will take part in a live video-conference with the Deputy Mayor of Cherbourg, Poole's Twin Town. The People’s Network aims to provide the people of Poole with access to the internet and other IT facilities in all libraries across the Borough. Poole libraries have been working hard to ensure the best facilities are available to residents in the town. Other software available includes colour scanning, printing services and an electronic reference service providing access to business information. Video conferencing is also now available from Poole Central Library and Branksome Library providing visual access to friends, relatives and business associates across the world. Chas Rowling, Library Network Manager, Borough of Poole, said: "Visit Poole libraries and discover a gateway to a world of information from video conferencing to researching jobs or holidays. The People's Network is a project which has connected all public libraries to the Internet, as part of the Government's commitment to give everyone in the UK the opportunity to get online.
