Free Your Voice With A New Choir For Poole

An exciting new project, developed by The Borough of Poole’s Arts Development Unit, will give local people the opportunity to sing their hearts out in a new community choir which begins next week at Lighthouse, Poole.

The choir is to be led by award-winning Sammy Hurden, a highly experienced singer and pianist, who has formed many community choir projects. Sessions start on 28 April 2003 and will take place every Monday evening from 7.30pm – 9.30pm.

Sammy Hurden, said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for local people to get together and share a passion for singing. We have some exciting styles of music to try out ranging from African, Eastern European and Gospel through to Blues and Jazz. The classes are open to anyone so if you’re interested, come along and have a go."

Sammy will help develop the newly formed choir with this eclectic range of music styles and hopes to progress to teach and create more challenging material once the choir has formed it’s own unique voice. Sammy added: "Within a spirit of encouragement wonderful sounds can be achieved, I am particularly excited at the prospect of writing music for the choir in addition to their own repertoire."

Steve MacLaurin, Arts in the Community Officer, said: "This choir will provide a great opportunity for people to sing for pleasure and meet new friends in a relaxed environment. Lighthouse has excellent facilities and will give people from all walks of life the chance to get together and share an interest. Before you know it you could be singing a new sea shanty with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra!"
