11 Apr 03Improvements to Broadstone's Delph Woods
Delph Woods will soon be treated to some much needed care and attention. The area of improvement is targeted at the drive into the car park, off Gravel Hill. The work will be undertaken at the beginning of the summer and advisory notices will be placed on the site when dates have been confirmed.
The existing drive has become badly pot-holed over the years and the new surface will require less maintenance. The main drive, which is also a bridleway, will be closed whilst the work is being undertaken although pedestrian access to the woods will still be possible from the Castleman Trailway and other existing entrances.
The Council’s Countryside Wardens are also planning some footpath improvements within the woods, which will have a particular benefit to less mobile visitors. This will include resurfacing the existing ‘easy trail’ and providing a link from this to the scout field. Extra seating is also being installed, including benches on the trailway overlooking the woodland canopy.
Dave Price, Countryside Warden, said: "We are delighted at being able to make these improvements which will allow our many visitors much better access to Delph Woods. However, there continues to be an increasing problem of fly tipping, which causes health risks as well as ruining this otherwise beautiful area. Hopefully most people are aware that rubbish can be taken to their local amenity tip but we are particularly keen to hear from anyone who witnesses any form of fly tipping."
If you are aware of any incidents of fly tipping please contact Poole’s Consumer Protection team on (01202) 261700. If you would like further details on the improvement work please contact the wardens on (01202) 261335.
