Free Course For Carers In Poole

Building on the success of previous courses, people who look after a relative or friend living in Poole are being given the opportunity to attend training that will help them access the information and advice they need.

The course starts on Wednesday 7 May 2003. It runs for 10 weeks, between 11am and 2pm every Wednesday and it’s free!

Val Mitchell, Carers Support Officer, Adult Social Services (Commissioning), said: "These courses have proved really popular in the past. They help connect people in similar situations and provide access to all kinds of information that can support those who care for someone. Caring can sometimes be difficult and isolating, these courses can help to provide advice and reassurance. There is a lot of support locally for carers and we encourage people to come along and find out more."

The Borough of Poole’s Social Services Carers Course includes sessions on carers rights, claiming benefits, safety in the home and care techniques including back care for those who need to lift or move others.

The person being cared for may be older and frail, have a disability or serious illness and need help with everyday life.

  • 1 in 6 adults in the UK care for someone
  • 64% of carers have health problems themselves
  • Many carers are also older people some are providing 24 hour care
  • To find out more and sign up for the course, please contact Val Mitchell or Lynne Payton on (01202) 261170/4 as soon as possible.
