Pride in Poole Welcomes New Partners

"Committed to enhancing Poole’s environment." That’s the message from Bournemouth and Poole’s Youth Offending Team and broadband communications company, NTL, as both organisations pledge their support to the Borough’s Pride in Poole campaign.

This recognises the importance that high quality streets and public spaces have to play on people perceptions of feeling safe and secure. At a time when the Borough of Poole continues investing to improve upon the already high standards of cleanliness and maintenance of its streets, the Council is pleased to welcome both organisations as active partners to the campaign.

Councillor Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Borough of Poole, said: "Support from external organisations makes a huge difference to what the Council can achieve. We recognise the many opportunities there are to build on what already works and this partnership will be important in improving the quality of services we offer and reducing the public’s fear of crime whilst enhancing our local environment."

NTL and the Youth Offending Team will be working with the Borough of Poole to tackle graffiti and flyposting blighting NTL's green roadside utility boxes which are a particular target for tagging throughout the Borough.

Andy Fripp, Civils Inspector with NTL, said: "We take our social responsibility commitment very seriously at NTL and we’re delighted to be partnering the Borough of Poole and the Youth Offending Team in order to improve the environment for people in the local area."

The Youth Offending Team will additionally be working alongside the Council to improve the appearance of the town. Along with the Council’s new Environmental Response Team, they will be repainting litter bins, removing graffiti on the Borough’s subways and repainting ageing paintwork. In addition, the team will undertake a general litter pick of the surrounding area.

Pauline Batstone, Youth Offending Team Manager, said: "We welcome this opportunity to work closely with the Borough of Poole and NTL to benefit Poole’s environment. It gives us the chance to make youth graffiti artists or those who damage public property directly repair the harm they have done. By making the link between their offending and reparation there is a greater chance that they will not repeat offend."
