15 Nov 02How Switched On Are You?
Shoppers in Poole will be asked how switched on they are about Community Safety at an event in the Dolphin Shopping Centre on Thursday 21 November from 4pm.
Staff from the Borough of Poole’s Community Safety team will be hosting the event called ‘Switch on to Safety’ and aims to give Poole residents information on all aspects of Community Safety, with 10 stands giving help, tips and advice on issues such as Domestic Burglary and Anti-Social Behaviour.
Cllr Graham Wilson, Executive Portfolio Holder for Community Development said: "It is important that Poole residents realise that Community Safety is an all encompassing issue and is not just about crime or the ‘nuts & bolts’ of locking your door at night. In order to develop a safe community residents must be informed of what they can do to contribute to a secure and happy neighbourhood and the information provided at this event is a big step in starting that process."
Officers from the Borough of Poole will be discussing Community Safety issues with the public and any issues raised will help form the basis of new Community Safety Projects. Residents completing a special feedback form will be entered into a prize draw to win a Mountain Bike. The winner will be picked by Cllr Graham Mason, Mayor of Poole at 8pm.
Simon Hendey, Head of Housing and Community Services, said: The purpose of this event is to provide information to the public in a friendly, family style environment, to encourage Poole residents young and old to learn from community safety advice. It also gives the Council an opportunity to discuss what is currently being done to tackle the causes and effects of crime and disorder in Poole."
Providing a background to the events of the evening the Salvation Army Choir will sing the Dorset Police Version of 12 Days of Christmas, lines include: "Join a home watch team, Keep some night lights on, Make your home secure" the overall message of the song being "Crime prevention is better you will see."
